Angel Food Ministries

Beginning in January 2010, First Baptist Church of Horizon City is a host location (distribution center) for Angel Food Ministries. Angel Food Ministries (www.angelfoodministries.com), is an organization dedicated to providing affordable, high-quality food to those in need, is offering relief and joy to families in our city.

In response to current economic conditions, there is a greater need for Angel Food’s services nationwide and expansion of services to the people of our city is one example of the amplified need for quality, affordable food, which is the core of Angel Food’s mission.  Angel Food provides individuals and families with fresh, brand name food for a fraction of the retail price. By purchasing food in bulk, directly from some of the top suppliers in the country, food is discounted by up to 50 percent of retail. A standard medium-sized box of food may be purchased for $30, and contains top quality food staples from every food group, including chicken or beef, milk, eggs, vegetables and fruits. Each of the regular boxes of food feeds a family of four for about one week or a single individual for almost a month. The menu selections vary each month, and consist of both fresh and frozen items, saving Americans money with no sacrifice to quality.  There is even a box geared towards the nutritional for people on the go.

Angel Food Ministries’ service is available to anyone. There are no income requirements, we accept. There are no limits to the quantity of boxes per individual, nor are there any applications or qualifications for eligibility.

11. Where do I purchase the food?
Food sales and distribution are handled by the local host sites. Most host sites are churches but other
organizations such as The Salvation Army, VFW’s, and The Boy Scouts of America have participated.

contact our offices and speak with our Ministry Development Department for further details.

13. How do I place an order?
Orders and payments are either collected by each individual host site during the first part of each
month, or through our online shopping cart at www.angelfoodministries.com. Orders through the host
sites are phoned, faxed, or entered online to Angel Food’s main office on what we refer to as “Call-in
Monday”.

14. Where do I pick up my order?
During the next week, called “Distribution Week”, Angel Food Ministries begins loading the trucks that
are scheduled to arrive at the host sites on what we call “Distribution Saturday.” Along with the many
trucks that go out from our warehouse, about 200 local host sites pick up their food on Saturday
morning from our facility in Monroe.

15. How does my church become a host site?
First you will need to fill out our partner application online at www.angelfoodministries.com
Once you have filled out this application you will need to send in your W-9 Form along with a $50
check.

16. Why does a host site need to fill out an IRS W-9 Form?
The W-9 Form is used to identify the EIN – Employer Identification Number of your church, ministry or
organization. The EIN will identify your organization’s non-profit status.

17. What does it cost to sign up to become an Angel Food Ministries Partner?
There is a one-time $50 application fee which covers all the training materials and start up costs.
Most applicants will come on board as a partner working through other existing host sites in their
area. These hub host sites have been trained by Angel Food Ministries staff and have place a high
value to outreach in their community. In some cases where a hub host site is not located nearby we
will then make that applicant a hub host site and will send an Angel Food Ministries representative to
train them to have the most effective outreach possible. Hub host sites do receive a one dollar per
box benevolent donation to help further their outreach potential in their community.

18. How long after applying to be a host site until we are able to order?
You must receive a “Start up Package from Angel Food Ministries’ Headquarters. Training from your
local state Minister of Outreach (state supervisor) is required before you place your first order. As a
partner your training will come from the Hub Host Site you are partnering with. Application processing
takes around 6 weeks once the required information is received at Angel Food Ministries
Headquarters. Any questions pertaining to applications or the status of your application should be
directed to our Customer Service Department at 770-267-7015 or 1-888-819-3745.

19. How many volunteers will a host site need?
Your host site will need about one volunteer for every 10 to 12 units distributed.

20. Where does a host site pick up their orders?
Angel Food Ministries provides a delivery truck to a local “Drop Site”. This site is a shared or common
site for several host sites to come to and pick up their food and take it back to their locations. Local
host sites need to provide transportation from the “Drop Site” back to their individual host site.

21. How can our church get direct delivery?
It depends on your location and the cost of getting transportation to your host site. Availability of
parking lots to accommodate a full sized semi tractor and trailer, highway conditions, traffic flow and
residential locations are evaluated. Contacting the Logistics Department at Angel Food Ministries can
help you with this information.

22. Can a host site transport its own food?
Your host site may drive a transport vehicle to Monroe, GA and pick up their food order on
Distribution Day. There is a savings of an additional $2 per box when your ministry picks the food up
from Monroe, Georgia. This savings is in the form of a check and sent back to your host site. It is
meant to help offset the cost of transportation. Transport vehicles must be clean and cannot carry
livestock.

23. How does a host sites take orders?
There is an initial supply of order receipt books and a training manual in your Start up Kit.

24. How does a host site take food stamp orders?

their use are in the supplied AFM Training Manual.

25. What does a host site do if there is a shortage or damaged goods?
Angel Food Ministries adds an extra unit which is called a PJ Add On (Pastor Joe Add On) to every
order of 100 units purchased. The extra unit is to cover any shortages or damaged items that may
occur during shipment. There are 17 to 18 items per unit and all items can be used to cover any
shortages. You can also contact the Customer Service Department to discuss shortages.

26. Is this an Outreach Ministry?
Yes definitely, churches and organizations across the United States are able to reach out in a greater
way through their participation with Angel Food Ministries. As a host church you will provide a
practical, non-threatening, yet life giving way for even your most timid church members to touch
others as they return to the church each month to receive their food. They will often return bringing
friends and relatives, and the members of your church will be able to touch the visitors with the
compassion of Jesus in a very real, genuine way.

Host site churches become known in their local areas because of their “heart” for others. Their
congregation becomes transformed as their members’ work together as a compassionate army of
inspired and motivated workers. Financial strain is lifted. Lives are touched.

On distribution day, church volunteers come together to perform duties ranging from setting up tables,
filling boxes of food or assisting disabled or elderly customers by carrying their boxes to their cars.
Pastor Joe predicts within the next decade Angel Food Ministries will have churches in every state in
the country. “At that point,” he said, “the church may try to expand the ministry into other countries. I
think we are poised, with God’s help and grace, for great things.”

27. What is the Servant Magazine?
Angel Food Ministries attempts to nourish both the body and spirit. Angel Food Ministries places a
magazine called the Servant Magazine in each box of food. The magazine consists of articles on
health advice, recipes, testimonies, Angel Food updates, the menu, and always a message of
Salvation through Jesus Christ. Angel Food Ministries takes pride in the fact that their program
crosses all denominational lines.

“I think it is so important that the people who receive our food understand where this tremendous
blessing is coming from,” Pastor Joe said. “And we have had people actually turn to Jesus as a result
of taking part in Angel Food Ministries”.

28. Must the host site place the Servant Magazine in each box of food?
Angel Food Ministries requires that the Servant Magazine is included with each box of food
distributed. Within the magazine is our salvation prayer – “Do You Know Jesus as Your Personal Lord
and Savior”. Host sites cannot exclude or replace this with other materials, unless pre-approved by
headquarters. Angel Food Ministries encourages churches to put their name, address and phone
number on the back of the magazine. Your host site church materials, such as church bulletins and
other information, can also be passed out by hand as well during distribution.

29. How successful is the program?
Since January 1995, over 8.1 million families have been affected by Angel Food Ministries. In
December of 2007 Angel Food Ministries distributed food to over 2.5 million people in one
distribution. 547,000 boxes of food left our warehouse within a three day period, and we are still
growing.

Angel Food Ministries has contributed over $9 million dollars into these benevolence funds over the
last 13 years.

volunteers distribute boxes of food each month. Each month AFM receives over 250 new host site
