FBC of Horizon City held it's annual VBS on June 13th - 17th. The theme for this year's VBS was "The Armor of God". Throughout the week the boys and girls participated in Bible study and drills, and crafts. They also learned about missions, with an emphasis on Guatemala. The boys and girls donated over $270 to go towards school supplies for children in the mountain villages of Guatemala.

Missions

Then He said to His disciples, "The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field."
Matthew 9:37-38 (NIV)

There are always opportunities to get involved in some aspect of missions work at First Baptist Church of Horizon City. We also support three major designated missions offerings each year--Annie Armstrong, Mary Hill Davis, and the Lottie Moon offerings.

Guatemala Mission Trip 2012

Our church will participate in another medical mission trip to Guatemala in 2012. The dates of the trip will be March 8-18, 2012. The team will be comprised of both medical and non-medical personnel. The deadline for applications and deposits is October 15, 2011. If you are interested in being a part of this important mission, contact Jim Day or the church office for more information.

Guatemala Mission Trip 2011

Five members from our church recently returned from a short-term medical mission trip to Guatemala in support of Servant Ministries. The trip was planned and organized by our church, in conjunction with Chapel Hill Baptist Church in Odessa. Our team was made up of 25 men and women from seven states and Canada.

During the trip, we conducted four medical clinics in four different mountain villages. In total we treated approximately 1,450 patients. In addition, each patient was given a Gospel presentation and at least 39 individuals accepted Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. We also participated in an "adopt-a-child" as part of Servant Ministries' Embrace Child Sponsorship Program. We devoted that day to "just loving on" some children from the mountain villages. We played with the kids, did crafts with them, took them shopping for clothes and other things, fed them Dominoes (yes, in Guatemala) and took them swimming. Afterward, team members who were actually sponsors (and some hoping to be) of some of the children got to make a "home visit" to see how their family lives.

There were several "hiccups" in the planning and conduct of the trip (i.e., our shipment of meds being delayed past our entire trip, travel issues, etc), but in each case God was good and provided everything we needed. Please take a minute to watch the following short video slideshow of our trip.

Operation Christmas Child

One of the greatest missions opportunities we have each year is to participate in Operation Christmas Child which provides gift shoeboxes to children around the world. Although our economy is not in the best of shape right now, we need to realize that compared to most people around the world we are truly blessed. Operation Christmas Child is an opportunity to provide a blessing in the form of gifts and the gospel message to those less fortunate children in the world.

Our goal this year is to prepare as many shoeboxes as we possibly can and we don't want to limit this opportunity just to the people in our church. Tell your friends, co-workers and neighbors about this program and encourage them also to get involved. As a church, we will provide the empty shoeboxes; we only ask that you fill them with love. For instructions on packing a shoebox, including what type of items to include, simply print out this "How to Pack a Shoe Box Gift" document.

Watch our weekly church bulletin for additional information. If you have any questions or need more information you can contact our church office at (915) 852-3027 or by email.
