Fall Festival 2009
At Horizon First Baptist we have for the last 5 years held a Harvest Festival on Oct 31 as a safe alternative to children going door to door trick or treating. We provide games with prizes, jumping balloons, free candy, hot chocolate, or hot apple cider to all that come to visit. The Horizon City Fire Department brings one of their trucks and give the kids tours of the cab where they can pretend their on their way to a fire.
This year was a great success in that we estimate we had about 1,000 people in attendance. Fun was had by all. One lucky youngster won an IPOD. Many of the parents have commented to some of our members who were running games, that they were very happy that they could bring their kids to our event. Their kids look forward to coming. Here are some pictures to show what it looked like as we set up just a sundown and later in the evening while the event was in progress.
Watch for future events that are coming up.
Thanks to all who came and made this a great event.

What is outreach?
One definition of "outreach" is: "The process of taking the Christian message to people who are not Christians, usually with the connotation of doing so through servant-evangelism-like activities."
Why is outreach important?
In the Great Commission (Matthew 28:19-20a), Jesus tells us to "...go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you."
Where are we to reach people for Christ?
The answer is simple. Jesus told His disciples "...you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth." In other words, everywhere--from your neighborhood to the farthest reaches of the earth!
Here, at First Baptist Church of Horizon City we are committed to reaching everyone we can for Christ. As a growing church, one of our main focuses is our "Jerusalem"--the men, women and families of Horizon City and the surrounding communities.
In addition, we are always looking for opportunities to reach beyond our own community and communicate the message of the gospel through other activities. One way we are reaching people is through day mission trips to a Children's Home in Porvenir, Mexico. |
